WHAT ARE DIGITAL AND OPEN BADGES?

Digital Badges are digital micro- credentials that recognise learning and accomplishment in a particular skill or area. They can be earned in a variety of learning environments, including higher education. Open Badges are Digital Badges that are hosted online and therefore can be collected by you the learner and shared on social networking platforms, ePortfolios, job sites and CVs. These Open Badges contain metadata which describes the badge criteria, issuer, and importantly your email address. This metadata makes the badge secure from plagiarism.

WHERE CAN YOU FIND YOUR OPEN BADGE?

After the symposium is complete and you have registered and attended the presentations and workshops, we will have a copy of your email address. We will use this email address to send you your digital badge. When we have issued your Open Badge, you will receive an email link to it. There are many places where you can receive, store and share your Badge online but the two most popular places are OpenBadgePassport and Mozilla Backpack. With both of these sites you can create an account and import your ‘ePrePP Symposium Participation Badge’’ badge, and any other badges that you may receive in the future, into that account.

NOW THAT YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED YOUR BADGE, WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH IT?

Once you have created your OpenBadgePassport or Mozilla Backpack account and uploaded your badge, you can then share your ‘ePrePP Symposium Participation Badge’ on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, ePortfolio and other social networking sites. If you wish, you can also print the badge to paper to put it on your CV.

HOW DO I SHARE MY BADGE ON MY LINKEDIN PROFILE?

Please use the following link to sign up for your free OpenBadgePassport account: https://openbadgepassport.com/app/user/register

Please follow the instructions below on how to put your badge up on your LinkedIn profile.

• Once you have registered and verified your password on OpenBadgePassport, from the left menu choose My Badges and then click on the ‘ePrePP Symposium Participation Badge ‘Future Professional Practice - A Step in the Right Direction’ badge. Then copy the URL of the resulting page.
• Next log into LinkedIn, and choose Profile & Edit Profile from the top menu.
• Go to the section you want to add the badge to (e.g. Summary, Certifications or a particular role under the Experience section). There should be a small button with the image of a box and a plus sign to the bottom right corner. Click this, paste in the URL and save. That should be it.
